The BAMA Standard Individual Guides

(Individual guides do not contain the check-lists contained in The BAMA Standard)

Product Design (2007)

£150

This Module will cover the key safety issues that need to be addressed during the design and development of aerosols. The module sets out requirements and recommendations for Good and Best Practice that if followed will demonstrate that consideration was given to a wide range of consumer and manufacturing safety issues during the design of products. These include assessment of product toxicity, flammability, product shelf-life, component design and design for manufacture. Environmental issues are not included unless they have a direct impact on safety issues.

Manufacturing (2007)

£500

The purpose of the Manufacturing Module is to help maximise safety levels across the complete aerosol manufacturing process and to ensure safety for the consumer through adherence to all required quality controls. The module aims to cover the whole range of aerosol filling, both large and small operations, and all types of products with the exception of pharmaceuticals. Therefore, whilst all five sub-modules are relevant to all aerosol fillers, some of the requirements may not be applicable to a particular filling operation. In some cases guidance is given as to the applicability of requirements, but in the majority of cases the decision is left to the assessor's common sense.

Consumer Labelling and Provision of Information (2007)

£250

This Module covers the consumer labelling of aerosols placed on the UK market and includes aerosols intended for the general public as well as for industrial and institutional use. The module will set out requirements for good practice (including those for special products); recommendations for best practice (voluntary labelling); supply of Safety Data Sheets and Poison Centre Information; and guidance on advertising codes of practice. It will not cover any aspects of outer/transit labelling requirements, which will appear in Module 5 (Transport of Aerosols).

Warehousing (2007)

£60

This Module presents requirements and guidance for the storage of aerosols. It includes storage of finished goods at the aerosol factory as well as in a warehouse for the purpose of distribution.

Emergency Planning (2007)

£25

This Module gives requirements and guidance for Emergency Plans for those sites manufacturing aerosols, handling filled aerosols during transport, storing or disposing of aerosols and for laboratories capable of manufacturing aerosols.

Product recall and Consumer Returns (2002)

£50

This Module gives requirements and guidance for planning an Aerosol Product Recall and dealing with consumer returns and complaints. Only available as a hard-copy.

Guides - Technical, Regulatory etc

BAMA Indoor Air Model - Issue 1

Free

The REACH Regulation and the revision to the Aerosol Dispensers Directive (ADD) both require that all chemicals are used in aerosol in a way that does not adversely affect human health. The BAMA Indoor Air Model is a simple but powerful tool, independently validated by experts from BRE who concluded that the Model 'can be used to predict the concentration of aerosol components within a room after a suitable time interval after spraying'.

BAMA Indoor Air Model User Guide - Issue 1

£25

The REACH Regulation and the revision to the Aerosol Dispensers Directive (ADD) both require that all chemicals are used in aerosol in a way that does not adversely affect human health. This guide has been produced to help customer care lines respond to queries about aerosols.

BAMA Electrostatic Guidelines (1995)

£15.00

General guidelines for the safe production, handling and disposal of aerosols with reference to electrostatic creation. The detail covers controlling the hazard of electrostatic charge, handling and storage, mass disposal of powder-containing packs, disposal of cans in the laboratory and product development.

BAMA Guide to Hot Water Bath Testing and Its Alternatives (2006)

£25.00

This guide is designed to provide advice to ensure that aerosols leaving the aerosol filling operation are safe for transport and sales to the consumer.

BAMA Guide to the International Transport of Aerosols (2007)

£150.00

An invaluable guide to the complex legislation surrounding the transport of aerosols by road/rail, sea or air, this covers both UK and international transport, tremcards, labelling and post.  Also included with this guide is our Transport guide which sets out the requirements for preparing aerosols for surface transport under the limited quantity provisions of the surface transport regulations within the UK and continental Europe.  It does not deal with the transport by Inland Waterways or with the disposal of faulty or empty aerosols.
