Winners Of The 2007 International Aerosol Awards Announced

Hosted for 2007 in the UK by *BAMA, the winners of the first ever *FEA international Aerosol Awards competition are announced with Valois, Walk Easy Ltd and Unilever winning in their respective categories of Innovation in Aerosol Package Design, Most Innovative Aerosol Product and Most Creative Marketing Strategy.  The awards were presented at the prestigious Gala Dinner of the FEA International Congress and Exhibition – Aerosols 2007 – in Manchester on the 19th September 2007.

Over the past year, manufacturers, fillers, marketers and retailers have entered aerosol products that have been launched into the market between May 2005 and May 2007.   The winners of each Category hold the coveted 2007 Award title, receive an engraved crystal trophy, receive public relations support regarding their accolade and are granted the use of the FEA International Aerosol Awards 2007 logo in their own promotional literature.

The Winners
Innovation in Aerosol Package Design
Valois – Dose Indicator
The Valois Dose Indicator has been designed as an integral part of an MDI actuator to include a number and colour countdown mechanism so that the patient knows exactly when the product will run out.

The judges’ comments:  “fulfils a real customer need and adds convenience”.

Most Innovative Aerosol Product
Walk Easy – DNA personal alarm spray
As well as producing a 138dB audio siren, the Walk Easy DNA Personal Alarm combines the use of a DNA tracer spray unique to each product and an UV marker to create a new kind of personal safety alarm.

The judges’ comments: “a socially responsible product with innovative use of DNA, more than a simple alarm.”

Most Creative Marketing Strategy
Unilever – Launch of Axe into Japan market
Unilever researched their market before entry and tailored their product to it, including looking at how they positioned the product in the market and reshaping the can .From zero brand awareness they took their product to a 63% market share becoming No. 1 in the male deodorant market after 1 week.

The judges’ comments: “a clear, easy communication…good idea well executed….understanding of the culture.”

Mr Pat Cooney, Chairman of the judging panel, said: “The standard of the entries of this, the first-ever international Aerosols competition was very high and our congratulations go not only to the winners but to the short-listed companies in each category.  These companies celebrate the creativity and technical excellence of our industry and are ensuring that the aerosol sector stays vibrant in an ever increasing competitive market.”

 The high profile International judging panel of five included:
Mr Pat Cooney, Chairman of the judging panel, now retired but formerly with Unilever Home and Personal Care Europe. Mr Nick Alford, member of the Board of advertising agency FCB London.  Mr Michel Fontaine, President for CFA (French Aerosol Association) and Director of Packaging Research for L’Oreal. Ms Monica Higuera, Deputy Editor of leading UK trade publication for the metal packaging industry - The Canmaker and Mr Crian Wilson, Boots Toiletries Scientific Advisor.
