BAMA MEMBER - IMPRESS - SETS STUDENTS REAL-LIFE PRODUCT INNOVATION TASK AS PART OF COURSE WORK
27/11/2006
Background Design students from De Montfort University in Leicester recently visited BAMA (British Aerosols Manufacturers’ Association) member, and international tinplate aerosol can manufacturer, Impress, to be briefed on a new two-term student project. Students received a detailed brief as well as had the opportunity to look around the manufacturing plant. The task set is: to develop a communications strategy targeting designers and product development agencies centred on adding value to products, some of which could be new innovations.
John Bigley, Impress General Manager Aerosols Division North & Southern Europe and BAMA Chairman said “We are delighted to be working with De Montfort University and BAMA on this important project. It is vital for the future of British manufacturing that packaging is seen as an attractive and interesting career option by the students of today. It is a key element in the marketing mix and it is essential that a full range of creative skills are applied to its future development to ensure continued innovation for the benefit of our customers and their consumers."
Sue Rogers, BAMA’s director, says: “With manufacturing in the UK becoming increasingly competitive, we feel that it is important to support creativity and innovation in a tangible way. We also want to ensure that designers of tomorrow are aware of the flexibility and convenience of the aerosol format and how it can benefit product performance. The design project set by Impress for the design students of De Montford University an excellent step in building those bridges and encouraging creativity in a practical way.”
