BAMA Awards pay tribute to excellence

British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) recently announced the winners and short-listed companies at its inaugural BAMA Awards 2009. The Awards encourage and recognise innovation, success and continuous improvements within the UK Aerosol industry as well as highlighting and paying tribute to the UK’s high standards in quality, safety and service.
Eight companies were shortlisted and were judged in the following categories, focusing on the three pillars of sustainability; Economic Sustainability, Environmental Benefits and Social Responsibility. The three judges were: Tony Mills, former Unilever Vice President for Research and Development and now an Industry Consultant; Robert Opie, author and curator of the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising; and retail consultant, Brian Moore.
The winners are:
Economic Sustainability Category
Lindal Valve Company Ltd: for both the use of new technology used within its Oil Spraying System and its two-in-one Bi-Power-Valve
Impress Merthyr Tydfil Ltd: for its Flexidec™ printing technology.
Social Responsibility
Industrial Hydrocarbons, Inc: for its graduate training scheme which funds scientific and technical studies of broad benefit to the aerosol industry
Impress Merthyr Tydfil Ltd: for its strong employee well-being programme.
Environmental Benefits
Aerocan UK Ltd: for its environmentally driven technical breakthrough of its Powder Internal Coating.
The two other short-listed companies were: Reckitt Benckiser for its New Veet® Spray On Hair Removal Cream; and Crown Aerosols for its UK Energy Efficiency Programme.
Sue Rogers, Director of BAMA said: “The BAMA awards aim to highlight and recognise the continuous improvement, innovation and economic viability within the UK aerosol industry. By launching the industry awards this year (2009) we hope to encourage and provide members with the opportunity to discuss the UK industry’s successes in an informal environment showcasing latest innovations and progress in sustainability".
