Aerosol industry continues to self-regulate with the launch of Issue 3 of The BAMA Standard
11/09/2007
BAMA, the British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association, has launched Issue 3 of The BAMA Standard for Consumer Safety and Good Manufacturing Practice.
Written by a team of industry experts, it provides a step-by-step guide for companies to assess their performance against clear requirements for every stage of the aerosol lifecycle – from product development, through manufacture to disposal and recall. Issue 3 provides updated guidance on recent legislation including the UK implementation of the ATEX Directive, The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR), Pollution, Prevention and Control (PPC) Regulations, SEVESO II, implemented as the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations as well as details on the Water Bath Alternative. Illustrations have also been incorporated to improve clarity.
Companies are considered to comply with The BAMA Standard if they have completed the self assessment process and all relevant good practice requirements have been met To be formally accredited to the BAMA Standard companies need third party verification of the self-assessment of each module appropriate to their business activity.. Accredited companies are permitted to incorporate ‘The BAMA Standard’ logo on promotional material.
Sue Rogers, director of BAMA, says; “The safety of consumers, and safe manufacture and distribution of goods are of paramount importance to the aerosol industry. In 2001 BAMA launched the first issue of The BAMA Standard and member companies have advised us that it has provided a valuable tool for monitoring and planning across their businesses. Many regard it as an invaluable reference tool as well. This latest edition brings it up to date with explanations of the impact of recent legislation for our sector.”
The BAMA Standard is divided into 9 modules and is available on USB memory stick. It is free to BAMA members and will be distributed by post following the official launch of Issue 3 at Aerosols 2007, Manchester on Tuesday 18 September at 2pm. The BAMA Standard is also available to non-members at a cost of £1,250 (excluding VAT).
